Late spring and September to early October are the best all-round times: the vineyards look their best, the weather is reliable and the village is busy without being overwhelmed. December is the most atmospheric and by far the most crowded.

Two peaks dominate: summer and December. Both push up accommodation prices and make parking difficult, and both are noticeably worse at weekends than midweek. If your dates are flexible, a weekday visit in any season is a materially different experience from a Saturday.
Weather
Alsace sits in the rain shadow of the Vosges and is comparatively dry for the latitude. Summers are warm and can be hot on exposed vineyard paths; winters are cold, with frost common in the valley. Spring and autumn are changeable, and layers are more useful than any single garment.
